The Suns will wrap their arms around their history Oct. 3 by staging their training camp-ending intrasquad scrimmage for free at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the venerable state fairgrounds home of the franchise’s first 24 seasons.
It was simply the Coliseum, if not endearingly “The Madhouse on McDowell.”
This season will make for 24 Suns campaigns in their second home, a downtown arena with one nickname (“Purple Palace”) but nearly as many name changes as Sean Combs/Puff Daddy/Puffy/P. Diddy/Diddy.
After 14 years as America West Arena and nine years as US Airways Center, the Suns’ home officially will become Talking Stick Resort Arena when the Suns open the preseason Oct.
