Suns interim coach Jay Triano wasn’t surprised to hear that Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue is taking an indefinite leave of absence to deal with health issues that have made sleep difficult.
Triano, who has coached in the NBA for 22 seasons, knows how much of a physical toll an 82-game season can have on the body. He gained 35 pounds his first two years coaching in the NBA before realizing he had to take better care of himself.
“I was horribly out of shape and in bad health,” Triano said. “It’s a challenge for sure. Talking to our young coaches, too, they were saying things like, ‘Man, I had no idea the grind of an NBA season.
