Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson was hit in the face with a pie at an event on Wednesday and the former NBA player got into a physical confrontation with the assailant.
The incident occurred at a benefits dinner held at Sacramento Charter High School. Johnson was hit with a store-bought pie and Johnson responded by tackling the 32-year-old man, according to multiple published reports.
"He was defending himself," Johnson’s spokesperson told NBC Bay Area. "The man came up to him and grabbed his arm and basically punched him with a pie. The mayor was defending himself and his family.
