Harrison Barnes’ decision to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Sacramento Kings worth $25.1 million to become an unrestricted free agent could have a direct impact on the Phoenix Suns’ future.
The Kings could suddenly be in the market for the services of a player like Suns forward Kelly Oubre Jr., who is a restricted free agent.
At 23, Oubre is younger and can impact the game on both ends more than Barnes.
Now, the Kings might end up re-signing Barnes after trading for him from the Dallas Mavericks last season, but he’ll likely ask for a four-year deal worth around $20 million a year.
