One of Phoenix’s stated needs is height and strength up front. They witnessed a big dose of both in Tuesday’s pre-draft workout, which featured two of the better underclassman big men prospects in this year’s draft class.
UCLA freshman Kevon Looney and Arkansas sophomore Bobby Portis were the only two big men in the six-man group of NBA hopefuls. They were also the only two mentioned by pundits as likely first-round picks.
Pitting both of them against each other – in front of a Suns team picking squarely in the middle of the first round, no less – provided all the motivation they needed.
