LAS VEGAS – The NBA Summer League rosters are comprised mostly of players who will not play in the league.
Mike James is coming off the bench for the Suns' summer team but he can hardly feel far from the NBA dream, considering how far he already has come and how distant each previous step seemed.
James was considered the third-best player on his Portland, Ore., high school team and was an academic non-qualifier but landed a full-ride scholarship 1,500 miles away at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher.
James turned that remote outpost into a Division I chance at Lamar in Beaumont, Texas.
