Robert Sarver stood to the side as the TV cameras focused on Ryan McDonough and James Jones. As the two men smiled, the Suns’ owner made an honest and revealing confession about his part in the team’s rebuilding efforts.
“The reality is, I probably didn’t go in the right direction soon enough,” Sarver told azcentral sports.
Perhaps the most surprising thing to come out of Wednesday’s news conference – besides the hiring of James Jones as vice president of basketball operations – was Sarver’s introspective look at how he’s run the franchise. Sarver said he should have embraced McDonough’s desire to start over with younger players sooner.
