Phoenix Suns GM Ryan McDonough: Team will conduct 'wide-ranging' coaching search

SALT LAKE CITY – The last time the Suns had a chance to engage in a coaching search, they didn’t.

Phoenix promoted interim coach Earl Watson before the 2016-17 season without interviewing any other coaching candidates. Eighty-five games later, Watson was fired and Jay Triano was named interim coach.

The Suns won’t conduct business the same way following this season. General Manager Ryan McDonough said Wednesday that Phoenix will conduct a “wide-ranging” coaching search that will include Triano, NBA coaches – both former head coaches and current assistant coaches - and possibly college head coaches.
