On Thursday night, the last of five Phoenix public meetings about the proposed $230 million deal to renovate Talking Stick Resort Arena was held on the west side of the city.
It was informative, organized and civil. It highlighted just how badly the city and the Suns bungled their initial attempt to explain to citizens the need for the renovation.
I use the word “attempt” in the lamest possible sense.
A month ago, the deal was being rushed through the city council. As it turns out, folks care when the city is agreeing to pay $150 million — Phoenix’s share of the cost — in part to benefit a basketball team.
