Now, we’re about see some change.
NBA players are leading the most high-profile labor strike of the modern era, pushing for something to finally shift so that Black men and women aren’t repeatedly subjected to deadly forms of racism.
American sports are in jeopardy as athletes in the WNBA, MLB and MLS have stopped play in solidarity.
Tellingly, some baseball teams and NHL clubs competed, highlighting a clear division — as stark as black and white — between sports that are predominantly African American and those that aren’t. It raises the concern that until people who haven’t been directly affected stand with those who have, this sort of thing could keep happening; it’s not like us Black folks can stop oppressing ourselves.
