After Phoenix Suns forward Markieff Morris publicly announced his desire to be traded (multiple times), the NBA responded with a $10,000 fine. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Marc Stein, while the Suns shared the press release with local media as well.
As Stein mentions, the fine should come as no surprise since this sort of thing has been going on for years now. Players are allowed to ask for trades or even make trade demands — provided they are directed at the team and not made public.
