New Orleans General Manager David Griffin knows him well.
Head coach Alvin Gentry does, too.
So longtime Phoenix Suns head athletic trainer Aaron Nelson will be around familiar faces when he officially joins the Pelicans’ training staff.
Nelson is leaving Phoenix for New Orleans, according to league sources, and his arrival is being deemed a major hire for Griffin, who the Pelicans hired earlier this month.
Nelson has thrived at extending careers of players such as two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash (2005, 2006), Shaquille O’Neal and Grant Hill.
The New York Times’ Marc Stein first reported the Nelson acquisition earlier Monday night.
