Jon Leuer was seven months old when the Suns traded for a role player that would change their fortunes. His stats were hardly gaudy; he would finish the season with a per-game output of 6.2 points and 7.0 rebounds.
Yet neither fans nor coaches saw the numbers. They were too busy applauding a dive for a loose ball, a smart and unselfish pass, a rebound that was never in question.
Oh yeah, and the goggles. They couldn’t get enough of the goggles.
Leuer doesn’t sport any in-game eyewear, but his impact on the game reminds Suns Head Coach Jeff Hornacek of his one-time teammate.
