Alex Len and Alec Brown’s 2014 Summer League experiences were as similar as their first names.
The former saw his hoops action in Las Vegas cut short by injury (broken finger). Ditto for Brown (separated shoulder). The difference between them: Len had the security of a guaranteed contract, courtesy of being a first-round pick when he was drafted.
The same could not be said for Brown, who Phoenix selected 50th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft. Second-round picks must earn a spot on their respective teams’ rosters. The severity of his injury left the 7-1 center on the outside looking in as the rest of the Suns’ young prospects made the roster, were assigned to Bakersfield or played overseas.
