Bickley: Suns stoking the fires of optimism

The NBA offseason has been full of surprises. Kevin Durant became an instant villain by joining the Warriors. Dwyane Wade signed with his hometown Bulls. Derrick Rose said the Knicks “have a chance to win every game” under new head coach Jeff Hornacek.

There should be a fine for that kind of stupidity.

Yet nowhere is the optimism stranger than in Phoenix, where Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough has signed two free agents, made zero trades and is holding on to $13 million in salary cap money. And fans are almost giddy with excitement, beaming with renewed hope.
