The past season of Suns news seems to have been a coming-out party for Goran Dragic as a star in the NBA - a party which is going to carry over to the 2014 FIBA World Cup with the Phoenix Suns' blessing.
Per Kevin Zimmerman of FanSided, Suns general manager Ryan McDonough stated on Thursday that the team is backing Dragic in his decision to play for the Slovenian national squad in Spain, regardless of the extra wear and tear he may suffer from doing so:
“If he wants to play, we’re happy he wants to play, put it that way,” McDonough stated. “He had the best year of his career last year after having come right off the European Championships. If that’s what he feels like he needs to do to get ready to play, then we support him.”
Another reason why the Suns may be so high on letting Dragic play in Spain is the confidence that he seemed to gain as a vocal leader playing for his national team in 2013's EuroBasket tournament - something which he could continue to develop in 2014's World Cup.
