The Phoenix Suns have plenty of depth on the roster in 2014-15, leading some to believe that the team could view swingman Gerald Green as expendable.
Here's Sports Illustrated's Rob Mahoney with his thoughts on Green's future in the Valley of the Sun.
Green makes the most sensible trade chip. His flair for offense is both an attractive selling point on the market and a point of some redundancy now that Phoenix has acquired {Isaiah) Thomas. His reasonable, expiring salary makes Green a low-risk get for a team looking to shore up its bench.
With Eric Bledsoe, Goran Dragic, and Isaiah Thomas taking up the bulk of minutes right now, Green's situation in Phoenix may very well be tenuous.
However, his size (6'8") and scoring ability make him an arguably bigger threat than PJ Tucker at the 3. Unless head coach Jeff Hornacek's plan to turn Marcus Morris into a true small forward bears fruit early, the Suns might look to hold on to Green for the time being.
Regardless, expect Green's name to come up in plenty of NBA trade rumors as the season moves along.
