With Edu sidelined for three months, Curtin calls on familiar face in Carroll to step up

The Philadelphia Union were dealt a big blow at the start of 2016 MLS season. Captain Maurice Edu was ruled out for a minimum of three months during Jim Curtin’s weekly presser on Wednesday. Edu, the core leader of the team, was slated to move up from defense and meant to take over in the midfield this season.

“He’s a big part of what we want to do, he’s a big leader. But, at the same time, it’ll be a next guy has to step up,” Curtin said.

The next guy up is a very familiar face in Philadelphia and his name is Brian Carroll.
