Deep into Friday night’s match against Orlando City SC, the Union were looking for a breakthrough to snap a 1-1 tie. Tranquillo Barnetta, who had a similar look on a free kick just about 10 minutes prior, stepped up from 25 yards out as the match approached stoppage time. He followed through with arguably the best goal in Union history, bringing back visions of Kleberson’s free kick in 2013. But unlike that October match, Barnetta’s goal vaulted the Union past Orlando City and into first place in the Eastern Conference.
