It’s exciting enough that Chris Pontius’ goal against the Timbers marked the Union’s 300th franchise goal – but now Pontius is nominated as a Goal of the Week contender.
Just moments after the Timbers opened up the scoring on the night, Pontius responded with his 11th goal of the season. In the 47th minute Fabian Herbers was breaking into the box when the ball got away from him, setting up Pontius perfectly right outside the 18. Running in full-stride Pontius’ left-footed strike found the back of the net and evened the game up at one a piece.
Pontius leads the Union with six road goals this season.
