Local clubs West Chester United SC and Vereinigung Erzgebirge are among the seven founding clubs of a new regional pro-am league sanctioned by the U.S. Adult Soccer Association.
The new North East Super League was officially announced on Wednesday.
In addition to the two local clubs, the founding members include Christos FC from Maryland, FC Motown and Jackson Lions from New Jersey, Newtown Pride FC from Connecticut and Safira FC from Massachusetts.
The league plans to formally launch in 2021 in venues with fans but may organize closed door friendlies or competitions this fall.
Clubs in the new league will still compete in local leagues, like the United Soccer League of Pennsylvania where West Chester United and VE are rivals and other state and local competitions based on guidance from local health officials.
