US Open Cup gives chance for Union players to gain playing time

The Union will kick-off the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup against Harrisburg City Islanders Wednesday night in the fourth-round of the tournament. With the US Open Cup on the horizon, it presents a unique opportunity for the Union.

It gives the team the ability to experiment with player personnel, and give players who may not always receive minutes in league play some valuable game time.

For the Union, a name that immediately comes to mind is John McCarthy, who already has been confirmed as the starter by Head Coach Jim Curtin.

McCarthy has been with the Union, and has been a key part in a few of the Union's Open Cup runs.
