For the first time since 2015, the Philadelphia Union won’t be starting their Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup campaign against an in-state opponent.
The Union will battle either the Richmond Kickers or North Carolina FC.
The Kickers, which have already lost twice this season to Bethlehem Steel FC, knocked off Penn FC 3-2 on Wednesday night in Richmond. North Carolina FC beat the Ocean City Nor’easters 4-1 on Tuesday night at home.
Fourth round matches will be played on June 6. The draw is scheduled for 11 a.m. eastern time today.
The Union beat the Harrisburg City Islanders at home in their first game in the competition in three of the last four years.
