Union thank former player Oguchi Onyewu as he retires

At 36 years of age, and after a professional career spanning 15 years and seven countries, American defender Oguchi Onyewu is retiring. Onyewu was capped 69 times by the US National Team and scored six international goals. His career took him from Metz in France to AC Milan and, for the 2017 season, to Philadelphia. Although many expected the big center back to be a depth option in Philly, he started 22 matches and scored once. A dominant presence in the air, Onyewu also helped Philly push toward a playoff spot after a slow start to the year.

Onyewu’s personal website quotes him saying, “"I feel as though it is my responsibility to relay the importance to individuals and especially children of following their dreams and not accepting defeat and pushing past adversity.
