Philadelphia Union attacked New York City FC’s goal relentlessly the entire second half but came up short as they closed out the regular season with a 2-1 loss. Marco Fabian scored a penalty kick to cut NYC’s lead in half but an equalizer never came.
The visitors were on the front foot early when Ronald Matarrita, a late addition to the first eleven after Heber was pulled, burst into the box and drilled home the opener.
NYCFC was able to break Philly’s press with ease early on up the Union right, and in the 22nd minute, they pushed into the final third once again.
