After playing the beautiful game for 17 years as a professional, former Union midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta announced his retirement on social media.
Barnetta joined the Union on July 29, 2015,after playing over 250 matches in the German Bundesliga where he suited up Schalke 04, Bayer Leverkusen, Hannover 96 and Eintracht Frankfurt. During his time with the Union, Quillo became a fan favorite scoring six goals and adding seven assists in 40 matches in Philadelphia.
Barnetta's most memorable goal came on April 8, 2016, scoring the game-winner off a free kick in the 90th minute as a substitute.
