Jay Simpson scored his first ever MLS goal in the 10^th minute to give the Union a 1-0 lead, while CJ Sapong brought the score even at two with his breakaway goal in the 73^rd minute. Simpson’s goal started with a pass from Haris Medunjanin, who put a pass into the box from about 40 yards out. His pass found Chris Pontius, who headed the ball over to Simpson in the middle. With a Toronto FC player on his back at Toronto goalie Clint Irwin closing in, Simpson headed the ball toward the far post, past Irwin and into the net.
