The Union registered their second point in as many games, thanks to the stellar play of the Philadelphia strikers. Jay Simpson scored his first ever MLS goal in the 10th minute to give the Union a 1-0 lead, while CJ Sapong brought the score even at two with his breakaway goal in the 73rd minute. Simpson’s goal started with a pass from Haris Medunjanin, who put a pass into the box from about 40 yards out. His pass found Chris Pontius, who headed the ball over to Simpson in the middle. With a Toronto FC player on his back at Toronto goalie Clint Irwin closing in, Simpson headed the ball toward the far post, past Irwin and into the net.
