After falling to defending MLS champion Toronto FC on a windy Friday evening, Philadelphia Union embarks on the second leg of their road trip Wednesday at MAPFRE Stadium against Columbus Crew. In their first meeting this season, the Union and Crew played out a cagey 0-0 draw in which both teams struggled to create chances and Union left back Fabinho exited the match early with an injury. Fabinho is back in contention for a starting role on Wednesday, but Columbus will need to fill the hole left by Designated Player Pedro Santos' red card suspension. In Federico Higuain, the Crew have an established Designated Player who has no problem carrying the creative load, and they have a variety of options to plug in on the left.
