A new formation from head coach Jim Curtin did not bring any positive results for the boys in blue. The idea behind changing the shape to a 4-3-2-1 was to have both 10’s Daniel Gazdag and Jamiro Monteiro on the field at the same time. Instead of creative and wide open play that would allow the team to send numbers forward, the Philadelphia Union spent most of the first half trying to keep the defense staying afloat.
You could say the Union had a small positive outcome of the first half. After all they did go up a goal in the 21st minute of the match.
