In the 66th minute, the Union nearly scored the first goal of the match, thanks to a rocket from Giliano Wijnaldum. The left back took a shot from the middle of the box, which clanked off the post for one of the best Union scoring chances on the night. Three minutes later, Montreal scored when Blerim Dzemaili put a shot past John McCarthy as a trailer in a two-on-two situation. Head Coach Jim Curtin said he liked what he saw from the Union up until the goal, and then being down, the team couldn't climb out of the hole.
