Philadelphia Union star midfielder Jamiro Monteiro could be on his way out less than two weeks away from one of the biggest matches in team history: the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League semifinal in Mexico City.
Monteiro was a surprise omission from the 18 in the Union’s match against the Chicago Fire.
Head coach Jim Curtin addressed his absence post-game.
“Jamiro is in transfer talks right now,” Curtin said. “That’s all I can say about the matter.”
Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Jonathan Tannenwald reported that one of the reasons for Monteiro, a father of two, seeking a transfer could be family related.
