The Philadelphia Union announced a new partnership Monday with Founders Brewing, a Grand Rapids, Michigan-based craft brewer with a controversial past.
The company settled a racial discrimination lawsuit in 2019 that was filed by a former employee. The suit alleged Founders had a “racist internal corporate culture” and that former promotions manager Tracy Evans was fired in retaliation for complaints he made to human resources about racism, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press.
Following the settlement — the terms of which were not announced — Founders created a Diversity Action Council, which crafted a statement that is posted on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion page of their website.
