Philadelphia Union advanced to the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday night, with a 3-1 victory over Harrisburg City Islanders at Talen Energy Stadium. With the win, the Union now own a record of 11-3 all-time in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup competition under Head Coach Jim Curtin.
The Union opened the match with constant pressure against their former USL affiliate. Philadelphia earned the first goal of the match in the 18th minute as Derrick Jones fresh off his U-20 World Cup appearance found the back of the net.
The goal was set up after rookie Marcus Epps was able to dribble through four Harrisburg defenders to find striker Jay Simpson.
