The vision for Philadelphia Union has been to develop young American players. The philosophy blossomed with the development of Homegrown products Auston Trusty and Derrick Jones, as the two went on to play in the U-20 World Cup in South Korea last summer.
Head Coach Jim Curtin has said multiple times that he wants the club to a destination spot for young American players and as the youth movement continues with Anthony Fontana and Mark McKenzie we check in on the fifth Homegrown, Matt Real.
Real has been away from the club for the past week due to international team obligations.
