Villanova played the role of spoiler in their second straight overtime match at St. John’s on Saturday with Josh Belluz delivering the game-winner in overtime to lift the Wildcats to their first victory of 2021.
Belluz scored in the 95th minute off an assist from Lyam Mackinnon to seal the 1-0 victory. The goal was just the second of the season for Nova (1-4-0) and the first since Branden Johns scored in the 22nd minute against La Salle in the season opener a day before Valentine’s Day.
”I thought we had a breakthrough with our effort and attitude against Providence even though the result wasn’t there,” head coach Tom Carlin was quoted saying after the match.
