Philadelphia Union defensive midfielder Jose "El Brujo" Martinez has been called up for international duty with the Venezuelan National Team.
Since arriving in Philadelphia at the start of the season, El Brujo has been one of Major League Soccer's top holding midfielders. His energetic and gritty style of play meshed instantly with Philly's direct, in-your-face approach that makes opponents uncomfortable and, at times, frustrated. Martinez went nose-to-nose with Inter Miami CF superstar Gonzalo Higuain in the Argentinian' first match in the league, and he set the tone for a stellar Union season by playing on after his face was bloodied against LAFC in week two.
