Goalkeeper Jake McGuire continued to be a brick wall in between the pipes for Steel FC to help the club maintain its push for the playoffs.
The 23-year-old rookie notched seven saves against Louisville City FC, giving McGuire the club’s all-time saves record. After tying teammate John McCarthy’s club record in the 64th minute with his 62nd save, McGuire needed only 48 seconds before establishing the club’s new mark.
McGuire’s accomplishment adds to his club record for wins both in a single season and career. McGuire trails McCarthy by one shutout for the final goalkeeping tally. McGuire has been one of the top keepers in the USL this season, controlling a back line that has had 10 different defenders start in front of net and McGuire has done well, holding opposing offenses to a 1.
