Goals from Fernández, Valeri sink Union

The Portland Timbers closed their 12-game road-trip with a win on Saturday night, calmly dispatching the Philadelphia Union, 3-1. Recent acquisition Brian Fernández grabbed a first-half brace, and Diego Valeri scored the insurance goal in the second half. Kacper Pryzbyu0142ko scored the Union’s lone goal, his fourth of the season.

Fernandez scored his first in the 31st minute, when he found space behind Jack Elliott and nodded home a cross from Andy Polo. Five minutes later, a slip from Alejandro Bedoya gave Portland the ball and a breakaway opportunity.
