German veteran Alexander Meier was in training with the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, sparking speculation that he could be a late season addition to the squad for the stretch run.
While the 36-year-old has had a long and stellar career in Germany — 151 goals in 446 appearances playing for Eintracht Frankfurt, Hamburger SV and most recently FC St. Pauli — he isn’t a logical fit for a team that already has a striking corps of Andrew Wooten, Kacper Przybylko, Fafa Picault and Sergio Santos.
The secondary transfer window closes on Thursday, but since Meier is out of contract with St.
