David Accam out eight weeks after ‘successful’ sports hernia surgery

Barring a run to the MLS Cup final, David Accam’s first season in Chester appears to be over.

The Philadelphia Union announced on Wednesday that the 28-year-old midfielder acquired from the Chicago Fire in January “successfully underwent a procedure to clean up a sports hernia repair from November 2017.”

The procedure took place on Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Accam has only 1 goal and zero assists in 13 starts and 23 appearances this season after scoring 14 goals and adding eight assists for the Fire last season. His lone goal in league play was a game-winner to beat his former club in July and he also converted a penalty kick against Richmond Kickers in the U.
