Philadelphia Union forward David Accam was named the MLS Player of the Year for the second time in his career after his emotional two-goal performance in a 3-0 win over Columbus Crew on Saturday night.
Playing a few days after his father, Michael Accam, lost his bought with cancer, the Ghanaian scored a pair of goals in the first half. He scored two goals in all competitions — 1 in league play and one in the U.S. Open Cup — last season in his disappointing first campaign for the Union that was cut short when he underwent a sports hernia operation in the fall.
