The Union have now faced off against the New York Red Bulls three times this season between U.S. Open Cup and MLS play, and in each match Chris Pontius has made his mark. Back in June he scored the game-winner to kick the Red Bulls out of the U.S. Open Cup round of sixteen, in July he scored the equalizing goal to secure a point against a visiting New York club, and on Saturday night in Harrison, New Jersey, his goal marked a career moment for the forward.
With his goal in the 55th minute, he tied a career best for most goals in a season with 12.
