Carroll re-signs with Union

There was speculation after the 2015 Major League Soccer season that Union midfielder Brian Carroll might delve into coaching.

While that could be a future possibility, the 34-year-old Carroll has decided that he still has much to offer as a player. On Wednesday, Carroll and the Union agreed to a deal for the 2016 season.

Among the most respected players in franchise history, Carroll joined the Union in their second year and helped the team earn its lone playoff berth that season in 2011.

"In general I wanted to try to play another year and see how it goes, and I am happy with the situation," Carroll said Wednesday in a phone interview.
