In five MLS matches in May, Borek Dockal collected seven points. That’s two goals and five assists in a single month.
But the Czech playmaker’s contributions go beyond the numbers. Entering May, the Union had only won twice. With Dockal as instigator, the club reeled off three wins and a draw following a month-opening loss to Columbus Crew. And the lanky Designated Player set up Marcus Epps’ breakaway that nearly put Philly up against New York Red Bulls’ vaunted defense in Harrison. In that match, as in others during May, Dockal paired his attacking output with a high defensive workrate as Philly controlled matches against opponents ranging from a ragged Real Salt Lake squad to a man-marking Chicago side to a well-drilled New York zonal system.
