Bedoya pays tribute to young fan who recently lost battle with cancer

SAN JOSE, CA — Philadelphia Union captain Alejandro Bedoya has had a thing for big goals and celebrations that fit the magnitude of them this season. Wednesday night’s 70th minute equalizer in San Jose was no different.

After leveling the score for the Union, Bedoya ran toward the sideline at Avaya Stadium, tore off his armband and held it up toward the sky.

“I had an LM on the captain’s armband for Lucy,” Bedoya said after the game. “A beautiful young girl, a three-year old who passed away. That was just my tribute to her.
