What a season it was for CJ Sapong.
In the offseason, the Union signed Jay Simpson, who was brought in to be the Union's starting striker, relegating Sapong to the bench to start the 2017 season. In typical Sapong fashion, he welcomed the competition, as it created a challenge for him and forced him to play the best soccer he could.
And play the best soccer of his career Sapong did.
Sapong started on the bench against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, where he came in as a super sub. He did the same against Toronto FC, and notched his first goal of the season to earn the Union their first point of the season.
