Zack Wheeler continued what’s been a dominant start to 2021 Sunday, striking out 12 and allowing just one run in 7 1/3 innings against the Boston Red Sox, a game that the Phillies would win 6-2.
On the season, Wheeler is now 4-2 with a 2.38 ERA, 2.56 FIP and 2.2 fWAR. The 30-year-old righty is tied with two-time National League Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom for the second highest fWAR among pitchers, trailing only Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees.
The Phillies unearthed perhaps an even more telling statistic in terms of how excellent Wheeler has been thus far:
Per @EliasSports, Wheels is the first Phillies starting pitcher with both a sub-2.
