Zach Eflin's perfect five innings wasted as Phillies lose to Marlins

MIAMI — Talk about a lost opportunity.

Not only did the Phillies fall again, for the second consecutive game, to the bottom-dwelling Miami Marlins here Tuesday night, but they squandered multiple chances to win in the late innings, leaving two runners on base in the ninth and stranding the bases loaded in the 10th.

And a few minutes before reliever Yacksel Rios, in his second inning of work, gave up a triple to Cameron Maybin and Yadiel Rivera’s pinch single in the Marlins’ walk-off 2-1 victory, Phillies shortstop Scott Kingery left the game, his exit likely related to getting hit on the right elbow by a pitch in the ninth inning.
