The Philadelphia Phillies made two injury updates ahead of their series-opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, neither of which contained encouraging news.
RHP Zach Eflin – who initially was slated to start Saturday night – was placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to May 28 with mid-back tightness. LHP Cole Irvin has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start Saturday against a Dodgers lineup that’s full of left-handed power, highlighted by early National League MVP favorite Cody Bellinger.
While there’s no indication that Eflin will miss more than a start or two, he’s a tough loss nonetheless.
