PHILADELPHIA -- The computer says Nick Williams is a notorious first-pitch swinger.
So it is no surprise that Reds reliever Kevin Quackenbush threw him a first-pitch breaking ball in the eighth inning Monday night at Citizens Bank Park. Quackenbush wanted Williams to chase, except this time Williams did not. He instead worked himself into a 3-1 count, before he crushed a fastball to right-center-field for a pinch-hit solo home run in a 6-5 victory.
It was the first pinch-hit homer of Williams' career.
Phillies closer Hector Neris picked up his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
